She is the daughter of Joy Arrington, a professional tennis player who is also the daughter of former American football player Rick Arrington, and Steve J. Fanning, a now electronics salesman in Los Angeles. Fanning inherits German and Irish blood in her vein. She is a Christian and is a Southern Baptist. She is said not to film any movies before her education at high school is finished. Now she gets an early entrance to New York University, and will attend the higher education institute in Fall 2011.
The first appearance was when she took part in a Tide commercial at the age of five. Shen then got some small roles in several famous TV series like ER, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, The Practice, Spin City, Ally McBeal, and The Ellen Show. However, Dakota Fanning’s first prominent movie ever which took her to higher fame level was I am Sam (2001), in which she played the role of Lucy Diamond Dawson, a daughter of a mentally challenged man struggling for her custody, there she played alongside Sean Penn. Her next movies taking her to worldwide fame were Trapped, Sweet Home Alabama (where she played the young version of Reese Witherspoon’s character) both in 2002; Uptown Girl, The Cat in the Hat, Kim Possible: A Stich in Time all in 2003.
In 2004, Dakota Fanning played in Man on Fire alongside Denzel Washington, in which she got many good review and praise. 2005 was another big hit and huge step for her for she took part in Steven Spielberg’s blockbuster movie War of the Worlds, there she played together with Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise. Next year, she played in an animation movie Charlotte’s Web.
In 2008, Dakota Fanning played yet another challenging role in an adaptation movie for a novel written by Sue Monk Kidd entitled The Secret Life of Bees with Jennifer Hudson. Nevertheless, those great and Box Office movies were still the representation of her “childhood” time, which in turn faded away once she took part in the making-money movie franchise Twilight Saga, in both New Moon and Eclipse, playing the role of one of the Volturi Guard, Jane. In 2010, the same year as the release year of Twilight Saga: Eclipse, she released her “musical” movie entitled The Runaways, where she played alongside Kristen Stewart. There, she played a role of a band’s lead vocal, Cherie Currie. Dakota Fanning’s next projects in 2011 will be the first part of Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, The Motel Life, and Girls’ Night Out.
