HappyThankYouMorePlease (2011) Movie Review
HappyThankYouMorePlease may be a comedy film for it cleverly delivers the basic problems of some late 20s people in a comedic way, but it may also be a love film for its main theme conveyed throughout the film is certainly love. We may have watched and known many films about the horrible lives of being late 20s without having or doing anything that it is so much frustrating, but HappyThankYouMorePlease, out of the mainstream of Hollywood film industry, is just original and natural in its every element.
Sam Wexler (Josh Radnor), a writer who is so frustrated about his life and career, tries so hard to gain something positive about himself and his future writing career. Then he happens to meet Mississippi (Kate Mara), gets some chemistry with the bar singer, and slowly falls in love. And he also meets an abandoned boy named Rasheen (Michael Algieri) in a subway whom he takes as a foster child for some reason.
Sam and Rasheen are not the ones being desperate about their lives. Sam’s close friend Annie (Malin Ackerman), who is suffering from a rare disease causing all her hair moults and she becomes bald, is so eager to find the right man for her. Only her true problem is her own low confidence. Another problem is depicted between Mary Catherine (Zoe Kazan) and Charlie (Pablo Schreiber), other friends of Sam and happen to be a couple. Charlie is depicted to have a problem of choosing between his relationship with Mary Catherine or moving to get a job.
